What is Classed as a Commercial Vehicle?
Here at Rampage Vehicles, we only sell commercial vehicles, so the important question is what is a commercial vehicle? The definition states that a commercial vehicle (also known as a CV) is a vehicle that transports goods and equipment as opposed to passengers. These can range from small vans to large trucks as well as specialised vehicles such as tippers.
Compared to a passenger vehicle such as a hatchback, a commercial vehicle will be used by a tradesman or delivery driver as a commercial van is more practical to use than a regular hatchback.
What are the Different Types of Commercial Vehicles?
Panel Van
One of the most common of all the commercial vehicles is the panel van. The panel van consists of a cabin which holds up to 3 people and a cargo area for equipment storage at the rear of the vehicle. This type of van is recommended for tradesmen, delivery drivers and business owners who need a fleet of vehicles.
Panel vans that we sell at Rampage Vehicles:
- Ford Transit Custom
- MAN
- Volkswagen Crafter
Luton Van
The Luton van is the same as the panel but has a large loading area, which is more practical for people who need to carry large items for delivery on a regular basis.
Combi Van
The Combi van, also known as the “crew van” is similar to the panel van but this CV has an extra row of seats meaning this van is able to carry more people. We recommend this van should be used for a construction company that has large teams or a small business owner who has a family.
Tipper Van
The Tipper van which as the name implies, allows you to remove the cargo from the loading area by physically tipping it using the tilting bed. We recommend construction workers who carry building materials on a regular basis.
What is a Light Commercial Vehicle?
Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) which are also known as light goods vehicles (LGVs) are classed as the same as CVs that have a maximum gross load of 3,500kg. When a commercial vehicle has a maximum load over 3,500kg then this would require the driver to hold a “goods vehicle operator’s license” which means you can’t drive these types of vehicles with a standard UK driving license.
Tax Benefits of a Commercial Vehicle
Owning a commercial vehicle does mean you are liable to certain tax benefits, such as being able to claim 100% of the VAT back. You will also be able to claim back expenses that are related to the vehicle.
